BENEFITS & ADVANTAGES
Why Clients Choose
Ikrar Counsel
Our practice is structured around the things that actually go wrong in notarial and commissioner for oaths engagements — and the details that prevent them.
Back to HomeAT A GLANCE
The Advantages We Offer
Appointed by Law
Both a Notary Public and a Commissioner for Oaths under Malaysian law — not merely a service provider but a holder of a public office, with the authority that entails.
Document Review Before Attestation
Each document is reviewed for technical completeness before any oath is administered or seal applied. This is not offered as a bonus — it is how we work on every engagement.
Short-Notice Appointments
Available at short notice where the practitioner's schedule permits. Priority is given to court-filing deadlines. For urgent matters, we recommend telephoning directly.
Pathway Clarity from the First Contact
We explain at enquiry stage whether a Commissioner for Oaths or Notary Public attestation is required, and whether apostille or legalisation follows — so there are no mid-process surprises.
End-to-End Coordination
We manage MoFA attestation and consular legalisation stages on the client's behalf, with written updates at each step. Clients do not need to navigate multiple government counters.
Jurisdiction-Specific Certificates
Different receiving jurisdictions require different notarial certificate forms. We prepare the certificate in the form the receiving authority expects, not a generic template.
Professional Expertise & Appointments
Ikrar Counsel's practitioners hold formal appointments under Malaysian law — the Notary Public under the relevant instrument, and the Commissioner for Oaths under the Commissioner for Oaths Rules 1993. These are not self-declared titles. The appointments carry legal authority, register obligations, and professional accountability. When a foreign authority or Malaysian court receives a document attested by an appointed officer, that attestation carries weight precisely because the appointment is a matter of public record.
- Appointed under the Commissioner for Oaths Rules 1993
- Notary Public with authority for international document use
- Registered with the Bar Council of Malaysia
Technology & Process Efficiency
Our appointment and coordination system is designed to reduce the number of touchpoints a client must manage. From the initial enquiry — which can be submitted via our contact form at any hour — through to the delivery of a completed document pack, the process is tracked and communicated. Clients with cross-border document packs receive written updates at each stage so that nothing falls into silence between steps.
- Online appointment request form available at any time
- Written progress updates for multi-stage legalisation matters
- Document tracking through MoFA and consular stages
Client Service Excellence
Every confirmed appointment is followed by a preparatory note specifying what to bring, how the document should be presented, and what to expect during attendance. This reduces wasted appointments and the frustration of learning on arrival that a supporting document was missing. For time-sensitive matters, a direct call to the office connects clients with a practitioner who can assess availability and provide immediate guidance.
- Preparatory note issued with every appointment confirmation
- Direct telephone access for urgent matters
- Guidance on document type selection at initial enquiry
Transparent Pricing & Value
Service fees at Ikrar Counsel are stated clearly: Commissioner for Oaths Attestation at RM 1,600; Notarial Services for Documents Used Abroad at RM 3,900; and the Apostille, Legalisation & Cross-Border Document Pack at RM 5,600. Each engagement fee covers the practitioner's time, document review, attestation with appropriate stamps and register entry, and preparatory communication. For cross-border packs, the coordination of downstream government steps is included within the scope, so clients are not presented with unexpected additions mid-process.
- Published fees — no undisclosed additions
- Document review included in each service fee
- Coordination scope stated upfront for cross-border packs
Results & Document Acceptance
The measure of a notarial or attestation engagement is not whether the document was stamped — it is whether the document was accepted at its destination. Our pre-attestation review, jurisdiction-specific certificate preparation, and coordinated legalisation pathway are all oriented toward that outcome. We do not consider the engagement complete until the client holds a document they can present to the relevant authority with confidence.
- Certificate form prepared to receiving jurisdiction's requirements
- Technical defects identified before attestation proceeds
- Full legalisation coordination for cross-border packs

WHAT SETS US APART
Distinctive Features of Our Practice
The Preparatory Note
After an appointment is confirmed, we send a written note detailing exactly what to bring, how the document should be presented, and what to expect. This is not a generic checklist — it is specific to the document type and jurisdiction. Wasted appointments and unnecessary return visits are reduced significantly.
Both Appointments, One Practice
Holding both a Notary Public appointment and a Commissioner for Oaths appointment means that once we understand a client's requirement, we can attend to the correct form of attestation without needing to redirect the matter elsewhere. This is relevant when a client is uncertain which service applies.
Cross-Border Pack as a Single Engagement
For clients with documents travelling to multiple foreign jurisdictions — a situation common among families relocating or companies expanding — the cross-border pack service treats the entire process as a single coordinated engagement, from notarisation through to delivered pack, rather than leaving the client to stitch together separate service providers.
Apostille Readiness
Since Malaysia's accession to the Hague Apostille Convention, documents for member states can proceed via apostille rather than the lengthier consular legalisation route. We are familiar with the applicable procedure and can advise whether apostille or full legalisation applies for a given destination and document type.
